How do butterflies bathe?

Butterflies don't have to bathe, but they do take sun baths called basking. Different kinds of butterflies bask directly in the sun with their wings open or closed. They do this to raise their body temperature so they can fly. If butterflies bathed in water they could lose their colored scales or ability to sense odors.
